Common Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

Breast Augmentation & Enlargement

Breast Augmentation / Breast Implants (typically silicone implants) is our most popular and common procedure performed today.

Face Lift & Neck Lift

Dr. Bobby A. Kumar performs comprehensive face lift and neck lift surgery for those patients seeking longer term results.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Typically Tummy tucks are performed when liposuction, weight loss or exercise alone will not address the sagging (ptotic) abdominal skin and spreading abdominal muscles.

Breast Reduction & Breast Lift

Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) reduces the breast volume and shape to a natural & for some women a perky shape.

Dr. Bobby A. Kumar, Cosmetic Surgeon MB,BS(UNSW) BSc(UNSW) FACCS, provides natural and aesthetic Cosmetic Surgical and Non-Surgical procedures in Sydney, NSW Mid North Coast(Port Macquarie & Kempsey) and Coffs Harbour.

Cosmetic Surgery is now common and accessible to many patients. Common Cosmetic Surgery procedures include Breast Augmentation or Breast Enlargement with Breast Implants (Saline, Silicone, Polyurethane or “Furry Brazilian”, round or tear drop), Breast Reduction, Breast Lift, Breast lift and augmentation, Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia surgery), Face Lift and/or Neck Lift,Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty), Liposuction/Liposcuplture and Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery).

Dr. Bobby Kumar developed a passion for Cosmetic and Restorative Surgery, pursuing this interest by completing a post graduate Surgical Fellowship with the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery. This is the only training programme specifically in Cosmetic Surgery, incorporating both rigorous academic Surgical training and assessment, and 1:1 mentoring and teaching by Australia’s leading Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons.

In addition to having the training, qualifications and experience, Dr. Bobby Kumar also has the underlying artistic ability necessary to understand and appreciate the principles and aesthetics of human anatomy. This is crucial in achieving the natural and aesthetically pleasing results that people are seeking through both Surgical and Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures.

For most patients, the decision to have Cosmetic Surgery is a significant and personal step. The goal is usually to enhance, improve, restore or correct an individual's self image. This decision is not taken lightly at Bare Aesthetics Cosmetic Surgery Clinics or by Dr. Bobby Kumar, Cosmetic Surgeon; priority is given to providing patients with all the information required to make an informed decision that is right for them.

Dr. Bobby A. Kumar performs the following Cosmetic Surgery procedures:

Breast Augmentation (Enlargement)

Breast Augmentation is the cosmetic surgical procedure which results in Breast Enlargement by using Breast Implants (most commonly silicone breast implants). It is the most popular and common Cosmetic Surgery procedure performed today in Australia and internationally. This procedure can also, and rather unfortunately, be referred to as a “boob job”. This crude term is not one used by qualified and experienced Cosmetic Surgeons like Dr. Bobby Kumar who strive to achieve natural and desirable results.

The decision to pursue Breast Augmentation or a Breast Enlargement is a very personal decision made for a range of different reasons. Many women have small, droopy or irregular breast sizes and shapes. Consequently Breast Augmentation surgery provides them a way to achieve naturally full and flattering breasts, results not achieved merely through a “boob job”.  For other women, Breast Implants provide a solution to address underdeveloped breasts that they have lived with their entire adult life. For many women, Breast Enlargement provides a means of restoring their breast volume and shape to their pre-pregnancy and breast feeding appearance.

Breast Augmentation is achieved by using either silicone or saline Breast Implants. The type of Breast Implant used differs on an individual basis; what is right for one woman varies from what is right for another. There are many decisions to make regarding size, shape, volume, texture or non-texture , projection and placement.

Smooth Implants typically used by Dr. Bobby Kumar are Eurosilicone or Cereform breast Implants. The choice of smooth Implant will depend on the aesthetic result that the patient is seeking. Alternatively textured Implants that Dr. Bobby Kumar uses are Brazilian “furry” breast implants or P-URE Polyurethane breast Implants.

The appropriate breast Implant options is discussed in detail with you during a consultation with Dr. Bobby Kumar taking into account your personal goals, existing size and shape and body stature.

Likewise the placement of the surgical incision when performing Breast Augmentation Surgery can be a very personal choice for women, and one about which they need to be fully informed with regards to the advantages and disadvantages of placement sites. The most common site for the incision is usually in the natural crease under the breast between the breast and the chest wall. Alternative incision sites are either around the border of the nipple and areolar complex and breast skin, or in the armpit crease. These last two sites tend to be much less common and have specific issues and limitations when performing Breast Augmentation. Read more>>

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Over time the breasts will droop and sag. For these women breast augmentation alone is not a solution as trying to affect a lift by way of a large breast implant will result in an augmented droopy breast rather than an aesthetic natural breast shape and volume.

A Breast Lift (mastopexy) with or without breast augmentation offers women an appropriate surgical option to return sagging, drooping breasts to a more natural and aesthetic breast shape and volume with an appropriately positioned nipple areolar complex.

A Breast Lift will involve incisions on the breasts which will take time to heal, eventually fading over time.

It is also recognised that breast lifting with a concomitant breast augmentation is difficult and has a range of particular complications which Dr. Bobby A. Kumar will discuss with the patient. Read more>>

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)

Whilst we usually hear of women wanting to increase the size of their breasts, for some women their existing large breasts are the cause of back or shoulder pain, awkwardness, embarrassment, personal frustration and lack of confidence. Large breasts in women of any age can hinder exercise, finding comfortable and flattering clothes and supportive bras. Women often feel their large breasts are out of proportion with the rest of their body and result in an unattractive contour and figure.

Breast Reduction surgery as the name suggests aims to reduce reshape and re-contour the breasts. This is done through the removal of skin and breast tissue, with subsequent reshaping and repositioning of the nipple and areola complex.
The first step in pursuing breast reduction surgery is to have a consultation with a fully qualified and experienced Cosmetic Surgeon. The consultation will involve a medical examination, measurements, a medical history and photographs, along with a thorough discussion as to the risks and complications of surgery.

The Cosmetic Surgeon will also talk with you about your goals and expectations of surgery, together with recommendations as to what technique or particular procedure may be best to achieve the desired outcome. Different techniques can be performed depending on the existing breast tissue and shape, the quantity of skin and tissue removal, the position of the nipple and areola and the eventual desired result. In some cases, liposuction or liposculpture may be used in breast reduction surgery.

Breast reduction surgery is usually done under general anaesthetic and can take anywhere from two to four hours, depending on the technique and complexity of the surgery. Recovery can then take up to 6 to 8 weeks, varying with each individual and the surgery performed.
Most women resume normal activities within 2 weeks; however some activities need to be avoided for 6 weeks, such as lifting or any upper body exercise. Breast reduction surgery can affect future breast feeding as the vessels and ducts that carry milk risk being affected; this should be discussed with the Cosmetic Surgeon in your initial consultation.

Women who have had breast reduction surgery typically describe a feeling of relief after surgery, both from pain and discomfort and social awkwardness. They express a new feeling of ease and self confidence.
For both a Breast Lift and Breast Reduction Mammaplasty patients can receive partial reimbursement from medicare and their private health fund; this should be discussed with Dr. Bobby A. Kumar at the time of consultation. Read more>>

Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia)

Males may also develop large breasts commonly known as “Man boobs”. This can be very embarrassing for men and many will avoid social situations where they are required to expose their chests such as the beach. Alternatively some men who exercise regularly may not be able to shift the pocket of fat in their breasts. There are many causes for Gynaecomastia, such as weight gain, metabolic, genetic and drugs (prescribed & illicit use).

The underlying type of breast tissue will determine the technique used for Male breast reduction surgery. Some men may simply require liposuction/liposculpture to remove the pockets of fat and define their chest wall. Alternatively they may require liposuction as well as an incision around the Nipple to excise a disc of fibrofatty tissue. For massive weight loss patients the pockets of fatty tissue and redundant skin will require extensive excision similar to that for a female when performing a Breast Reduction surgery.

For Male Breast reduction patients can receive a partial reimbursement from medicare and their private health fund for the Liposuction component; you should discuss this with Dr. Bobby A. Kumar at the time of your consultation. Read more>>

Face and Neck Lift

Many patients seeking facial rejuvenation are familiar with short term procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections or barbed threads. Wrinkles, sagging facial skin, soft tissue and jowls may be improved for between 3 and 18 months with these procedures.

Dr. Bobby A. Kumar performs comprehensive face lift and neck lift surgery for those patients seeking longer term results; many of these patients will still have a softened and rejuvenated appearance at 10-12 years.

The particular techniques Dr. Bobby A. Kumar employs in his face lift surgery avoid obvious scars and hair loss, and produce a natural refreshed and rejuvenated appearance, rather than the “windswept” appearance common to poorly performed facial rejuvenation surgery.

Likewise the neck lift achieves a defined, aesthetic neck and jaw line and lifting of the jowls and “turkey” neck.

Facial rejuvenation is a particular specialty at which Dr. Bobby A. Kumar excels and keenly focuses on producing natural and refreshed results by both surgical and non-surgical face lifting techniques. Read more>>

Tummy Tucks and Liposuction

A Tummy tuck is known as an Abdominoplasty. Typically tummy tucks are performed when liposuction, weight loss or exercise alone will not address the sagging (ptotic) abdominal skin and spreading abdominal muscles.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) surgery has become a common and popular form of body lifting procedure for men and women. There are a number of reasons for considering a Tummy tuck. Typically the most common reason tends to be following significant weight loss, patients are left with redundant lower and upper abdominal skin and soft tissue.
This can hang down like an “apron” and is unsightly and therefore difficult to hide and uncomfortable. Patients will complain of the weight, skin rubbing and recurrent fungal of skin infections and dermatitis as a result of excess sweating under the hanging “apron” of excess tissue.

Most people are reluctant to go to the beach or swimming pool during summertime for fear of embarrassment when wearing a bathing suit. They will also complain of a limited range of clothing available. Following tummy tuck surgery patients are excited about the change in lifestyle as well as the symptom relief.

It is not unusual to incorporate previous surgical scars and caesarian scars when performing an abdominoplasty. The consideration in this case is not only scar revision but also to produce a refined abdominal shape and contour.
Abdominoplasty is now not uncommon after patients have had lap band or Bariatric surgery for obesity. These patients lose a lot of weight very quickly. Consequently the skin and soft tissues that have expanded over time to accommodate the excess weight, unfortunately does not retract to “shrink” back onto the underlying body.

These patients have a significant amount of excess skin and tissue. Many will require a radical type abdominoplasty and some patients will require a staged procedure of a Total Body lift.

There are patients, however, that will achieve excellent natural and aesthetic results from liposuction alone and are unlikely to need such procedures as a tummy tuck or other body lifting procedures (eg arm lift and reduction or thigh lift).

Liposuction/Liposculpture is used to remove pockets or areas of fat resistant to the actions of exercise or diet.

Following liposuction the skin retracts and redrapes producing a more defined body shape. Dr. Bobby A. Kumar also utilises liposuction during the tummy tuck procedure to help shape and define the torso, abdomen and back.

It is important to realise that a tummy tuck and liposuction are not weight loss procedures and patients are encouraged to have an appropriate exercise and diet regime to facilitate health, fitness and weight loss. Read more>>
