Facial Wrinkle Rejuvenation

The most common non surgical Cosmetic procedure performed in Sydney today is the use of Wrinkle rejuvenation therapies.

It is a Non Surgical approach to rejuvenate the Face, Neck & Eyes. However, it may also be used following a Face lift to maintain the results.

This is a neurotoxin (muscle relaxant); it is used to rejuvenate wrinkles typically in the regions of the face and neck.

These images are not intended to indicate or reflect likely results or outcomes for any other patient other than those displayed here. Every patient will have before and after results consistent with their individual and unique anatomy and physique. Therefore patients should not make decisions to have Cosmetic Surgery based solely on before and after images.

The volumes or quantities used to effectively rejuvenate the face and neck are not sufficient to cause systemic harm (several thousand vials would be required). Muscle relaxant is used for non-cosmetic conditions such as Hyperhidrosis (excessively sweaty palms, armpits or feet), blepharospasm (twitching eyelids), migraines and cerebral palsy patients.

Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process, where the skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic as people get older. Factors such as facial expressions, exposure to UV light, smoking, and alcohol can accelerate the aging process and contribute to the development of wrinkles. Aging skin, with its slower cell division and reduced ability to hold moisture, also contributes to the development of wrinkles.

The procedure would take approximately 10-15 minutes to perform and Dr. Bobby Kumar uses ice blocks as an effective anaesthetic to minimise pain of the any therapy and reduce the risk of bruising. If patients are taking blood thinning medications bruising is likely. It is important to use broad spectrum sunscreen to protect the skin during and after wrinkle rejuvenation procedures.

Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, causing the top layers to shed and allowing new, healthier skin to grow. They are effective in treating wrinkles, skin discoloration, and scars.

Non-surgical Wrinkle rejuvenation can be used as an adjunct to other procedures or it may be the only cosmetic procedure some patients will ever have performed. A common misconception though is that it is “addictive”. Patients decide if at all and when they require further therapies to maintain a rejuvenated, natural and aesthetic face and neck. Dry skin, which is less elastic and protective, is more likely to develop wrinkles. Moisturizing can help prevent fine lines and wrinkles caused by dry skin.

Some patients will start to experience the results within 2-3 days and the peak effects occur at around the two week period. Facial expressions, such as smiling and frowning, can lead to the development of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

The effects will last initially for 3 months, then patients will begin to notice a return to muscle activity of the muscles previously blocked. If a patient has subsequent wrinkle rejuvenation procedures they will find that as the muscle atrophies and weakens the effect may last a lot longer and the frequency and perhaps the dosage of Muscle relaxant required decreases respectively. Sun exposure breaks down collagen and elastin fibers in the skin, leading to weaker and less flexible skin, ultimately causing facial wrinkles to appear.

There are other forms of Muscle relaxant commercially available in Sydney; Dr. Bobby Kumar has many years of experience with wrinkle rejuvenation therapy, the brand supplied by Allergan is the form of muscle relaxant he continues to recommend and use in his Sydney practice. Treatments like retinoids and laser therapy can help reduce fine wrinkles by increasing collagen production and tightening the skin.

During your consultation Dr. Bobby Kumar will take a history and perform an examination to determine if non-surgical wrinkle rejuvenation is suitable for you. There are patients that require a surgical option such as Face lift or Neck lift to achieve the results they desire. Hence a realistic expectation and realisation of the limitations of any rejuvenation therapy is essential. Botox can help reduce frown lines by blocking chemical signals to targeted muscles, resulting in a smoother appearance.

Complications include pain, discomfort, redness and bruising. In inexperienced or untrained hands there is the risk of eyelid droop or a down turned mouth. Hyaluronic acid is commonly used as a filler to plump and smooth out deep face wrinkles, providing the skin with more volume.

Retinoids can prevent wrinkles by activating collagen and elastin in the skin, providing structure and support. Various treatments like dermabrasion and fillers can reduce wrinkles by smoothing the skin and plumping deeper wrinkles.

As people age, their skin cells divide more slowly and the skin’s inner layer begins to thin, leading to a decrease in the skin’s stretchiness and structure, as well as a reduced ability to hold onto moisture. Skin resurfacing techniques are options available to help smooth wrinkles or make them less visible.

Skin tone can affect the suitability of certain treatments like laser resurfacing, with fair-skinned individuals generally having better outcomes. Procedures like micro-needling create controlled wounds that heal over time, contributing to smoother skin.

Wrinkle treatments should be discussed with a specialised doctor to create a skin care plan and assess the best options for improving appearance and smoothing skin.
