Comprehensive description for a Thigh Lift or Thighplasty surgical technique.

Comprehensive Thigh Lift which is also known as Thighplasty, involves various surgical techniques to address specific concerns and achieve the desired results of rejuvenation the thighs. The particular choice of technique depends on a number of factors such as the extent of excess skin and fat, the patient’s anatomy, and their aesthetic goals. The following is a detailed overview of a comprehensive thigh lift:

  1. Preoperative Consultation & Evaluation:
  • The Cosmetic Medical Practitioner assesses the patient’s medical history, current health status, and aesthetic goals. All patients require a referral from their GP prior to the consultation.
  • Discussions about the specific areas of concern, including inner thighs, outer thighs, or a combination.
  • Photography for documentation and planning is performed during the consultation.
  1. Anaesthesia:
  • The procedure is typically performed under general anaesthesia to ensure patient comfort and safety during the surgery.
  1. Incision Planning:
  • The Cosmetic Practitioner plans the incisions based on the type of thigh lift to be performed (inner, outer, or combined) and the amount of surgical correction required to achieve the planned goals.
  • Incisions are strategically placed to minimize visible scarring, often within natural skin creases. However, this is not possible for vertical inner thigh lifts.
  1. Inner Thigh Lift (Medial Thigh Lift):
  • Incision: Placed In the groin area or inguinal crease. This technique utilises the natural inguinal tissues to reduce the visibility of the scar and to prevent scar migration.
  • Tissue Removal: Excess skin and fat are excised following initial Liposuction. The remaining skin is lifted and tightened by suturing techniques.
  • Muscle Tightening: Depending on the patient’s needs, underlying muscles may be tightened for enhanced contour.
  1. Outer Thigh Lift (Lateral or Extended Thigh Lift):
  • Incision: The surgical technique involves making an Incision extending along the outer hip and extending toward the buttock crease.
  • Tissue Removal: Removal of excess redundant skin and fat, combined with liposuction as needed to effect a contoured thigh.
  • Muscle Tightening: Adjustments may be made to the underlying muscles for optimal shaping.
Thighplasty Surgery
  1. Vertical Thigh Lift:
  • Incision: A vertical incision starting from the groin and extending down the inner thigh. This type of surgical approach allows for significant correction.
  • Tissue Removal: The excess and redundant skin and fat is excised, and remaining skin is repositioned.
  • Muscle Tightening: If required for improved contour.
  1. Combined Thigh and Body Lift:
  • Incision: Strategically placed incisions for a comprehensive approach to effect a complete body lifting procedure. This is often performed in stages at two separate operations for patient safety.
  • Tissue Removal: Redundant and excess skin and fat is removed from the thighs, abdomen, and buttocks regions.
  • Muscle Tightening: Addressing muscles in multiple areas for a harmonious result.
  1. Closure and Dressing:
  • All incisions are meticulously closed with sutures and or staples dependant on the type of surgical procedure or approach performed.
  • Dressings and compression garments are applied to support the healing process and minimize swelling.
  1. Postoperative Care:
  • Patients will receive detailed instructions on postoperative care, including wound care and activity restrictions.
  • Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing and address any concerns. These are mandatory visits to ensure safe and rapid recovery of the patient.
  1. Recovery:
  • Recovery time varies, but patients are typically advised to avoid strenuous activities during the initial weeks.
  • Gradual return to normal activities is guided by the Cosmetic Practitioner.
  1. Scar Management:
  • Scar care recommendations, such as silicone gel or sheets will be recommended to minimize scarring.

It’s crucial for individuals considering a thigh lift to consult with a qualified and trained Cosmetic Practitioner to discuss their specific goals and determine the most appropriate surgical plan tailored to their unique anatomy and needs. Thorough discussions about potential risks, benefits, and expected outcomes are essential for informed decision-making.
