Breast Lift, Breast Reduction or Breast Implants – Whats the right option ?

Breast Lift & Breast Reduction Surgery: Sydney and Port Macquarie Clinics

How many jokes do we hear or see about women’s breasts as we get older? Whilst some people may find them amusing, for some women they represent a harsh and embarrassing personal reality they face everyday. There is only so much a bra can do to support breasts that become saggy and lengthen with age exacerbated with pregnancy and breast feeding.

Cosmetic Surgery can offer a resolution to the problem of sagging and droopy breasts in the form of breast lift. A breast lift involves removal of excess skin and tissue from the breast and reshaping of the breast, to lift the breast to its correct position and restore shape. In some cases, restoring shape and volume also requires insertion of a breast implant. In other cases, a breast reduction may be combined with a breast lift to achieve a natural shape, size and proportion.

Does a breast lift result in smaller breasts? It is possible that your breasts may become smaller, remembering that the excess skin and tissue that is removed is what was causing the sagging. However, usually changes are seen in shape and not cup size. If size is an issue, there is the option of inserting breast implants.

There are different techniques for different types of breast lift. It is not a ‘one technique for everyone’ surgery. In some cases, breast lift can be in part achieved by inserting a breast implant which fills out excess skin and tissue. However, breast implants do obviously add weight to the breasts and can make them more droopy and saggy. Many women who have breast implants without a breast lift are ultimately dissatisfied with the outcome of larger breasts and not having resolved the remaining issues of shape sag and droop.

The most important first step is to have a consultation with a Cosmetic Surgeon to discuss your surgical options. An examination is necessary (including measurements and photographs) to provide the Cosmetic Surgeon with information to evaluate what technique is most appropriate for you to achieve the desired results. How much lift and tissue removal is required will depend on how much sag/droop is present, the location of the nipple and areola in relation to the breast, the breast position on the chest and what you are aiming to accomplish.

Many women today are realising they don’t have to be defeated by age and gravity when it comes to the shape and appearance of their breasts. Even the best bras don’t prevent sagging and drooping over time. Breast lift offers women a surgical option to restore shape and proportion to their breasts, ease embarrassment and self-consciousness and improve overall confidence.
