The Essentials of Breast Augmentation & Breast Enlargement in Sydney and Port Macquarie

For many women, the perception of femininity and beauty includes breasts that are aesthetically appealing. This may be one of the reasons why breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures in Sydney and Adelaide. The size and shape of a woman’s breasts is a very personal choice. Breast augmentation surgery offers women the ability to address the size and shape of their breasts to create curves and contours and improve body proportion.

Every woman has her own personal reasons for seeking Breast Enlargement. In general the most common reasons women in Sydney, Port Macquarie and across Australia choose to pursue breast augmentation include the following;

  • To restore breasts to their former shape and size prior to pregnancy and breast feeding
  • To correct asymmetry, sagging or drooping
  • To improve overall body proportion
  • To increase size of breasts
  • To improve appearance in clothing and increase range of flattering clothes

It is important to remember that different women seek different results. For some women, they desire a significant increase in breast size. For other women, they emphasize a desire for a natural appearance. This is one of the reasons that it is of the utmost importance that women are well informed prior to having breast augmentation surgery. In a consultation with a Cosmetic Surgeon, an open and candid discussion includes talking about your aims and expectations and the Surgeon’s recommendations about what can be achieved. You should receive all the information you require, including information about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of implants, the risks and complications associated with any surgery and post operative care and management. It is often a good idea for women to bring along their partner, close friend or family member to the consultation for support in making a safe and informed decision. The consultations with your Cosmetic Surgeon play a crucial role in facilitating the overall success of the surgery.

In your consultation with the Cosmetic Surgeon, you will have the opportunity to see and try a range of implants in different shape and sizes to make a decision about the best implant is for you in terms of size, shape and projection. There are two main types of implants – saline and silicone. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages of which the Cosmetic Surgeon will inform you, so together you can decide what is best for you.

Prior to surgery, you will be required to undergo a series of medical tests, such as blood tests, to provide the Cosmetic Surgeon with information as to the status of your overall health and potential risks and complications in surgery. As for the surgery itself, it is usually performed under general anaesthesia with an anaesthetist. On some occasions, it may be performed under sedation. Breast augmentation surgery is performed as a day surgery, the operation itself taking about 2 hours depending on the complexity of the individual case. Some patients choose to stay overnight in hospital if this is available. Some women experience little pain and discomfort after surgery, whilst others take mild pain relief. Following surgery, there is usually swelling and sometimes bruising that usually resolves within 1-2 weeks. Initially after surgery, the breast implants usually sit higher on the chest due to muscle tension; the implants usually settle into their final position within 3 to 6 months.

Breast augmentation surgery comes with a high level of satisfaction. Usually women return to work within 1-2 weeks and resume normal physical activities in about 6-8 weeks. The most desirable results are natural looking, shapely breasts.
